How to Play Fantasy Premier League (FPL)
Published February 17, 2026
Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is the world's biggest fantasy football game, played by over 11 million managers globally. Pick your squad, make transfers, and relish the moment your captain scores a hat-trick. Here’s how to get started:
Building Your Squad
▪ Budget: You begin with a virtual budget of £100 million.
▪ Squad Size: You must select 15 players (2 Goalkeepers, 5 Defenders, 5 Midfielders, 3 Forwards)
▪ Rule of 3: You can only select a maximum of 3 players from any single Premier League club.
Selecting Your Team
▪ Formation: You must play at least 1 goalkeeper, 3 defenders, and 1 forward. Common formations include 3-4-3, 3-5-2, and 4-4-2.
▪ Captaincy: Pick a Captain and a Vice-Captain. Your Captain’s points are doubled! If your Captain doesn't play, your Vice-Captain gets the double points.
▪ Bench: If a player in your Starting XI doesn't play at all, a player from your bench will be automatically substituted in (provided the formation rules are met).
Scoring Points:
Players score points based on real-life performance:
▪ Goals: Forwards (4pts), Midfielders (5pts), Defenders/GKs (6pts).
▪ Assists: 3 points for any player.
▪ Clean Sheets: Defenders/GKs (4pts), Midfielders (1pt).
▪ Bonus Points: The 3 best performers in a match get 3, 2, and 1 bonus points.
▪ Saves & Penalties: Goalkeepers earn points for saves and penalty saves.
Chips (Power-ups):
Use these wisely to boost your score:
▪ Bench Boost: Points from your bench players are included in your total.
▪ Triple Captain: Your Captain’s points are tripled instead of doubled.
▪ Free Hit: Make unlimited transfers for one week only.
▪ Wildcard: Make unlimited permanent transfers (available twice a season).
